Around 3,500 people gathered at Parque de Lazer do Baião, in Góis, on 7 August to attend Tony Carreira’s Charity Concert, for an evening of music, emotion and solidarity aimed at supporting the work carried out by the Sara Carreira Association.

Held as part of the Góis Municipal Festivities, the concert had a strong charitable purpose, with all proceeds from ticket sales, priced at a symbolic five euros, donated in full to the Sara Carreira Association. The organisation supports talented and deserving young people facing financial difficulties, helping them pursue their academic and professional ambitions.

The evening held particular significance for Góis. In 2021, the town was preparing to host what would have been Sara Carreira’s first solo concert. Although that moment never took place, the bond between Sara, her family and Góis has remained firmly rooted in the community’s memory.

Tony Carreira’s return to Góis was inspired by the desire to honour that memory and transform the occasion into a moment of solidarity. The concert was supported by the Grupo Alves Bandeira as its main patron, together with the Municipality of Góis, in a partnership that also reflects the Group’s longstanding connection with the municipality, where its first service station was established in 1958.

During the concert, which lasted more than an hour and a half, Tony Carreira invited Rui Bandeira, President of tGrupo Alves Bandeira, and Maria João, Executive Director of the Sara Carreira Association, to join him on stage for a public acknowledgement of the partnership and the work carried out together in support of the young people assisted by the Association.

"Góis marks the beginning of our Group’s history, which is why being part of this concert held such special meaning for us. We brought together our longstanding connection with this community and a cause we believe in, one that has a tangible impact on the lives of young people in Portugal. It is this close relationship with local communities that we also want to continue preserving,” says Rui Bandeira, President of Grupo Alves Bandeira.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Góis, representatives of local authorities, members of the Grupo Alves Bandeira’s Board of Directors and representatives of the Sara Carreira Association.

The evening in Góis was marked by the memory of Sara Carreira and by the solidarity of thousands of people who came together to support a cause dedicated to creating new opportunities for young people in Portugal.
