Grupo Alves Bandeira and REMO launch one of Portugal’s largest ultra-fast charging networks

2025-11-24

Grupo Alves Bandeira, one of Portugal’s leading energy and mobility groups, and REMO — the cleantech company within the Mota-Engil Group — have announced a strategic partnership to develop one of the country’s largest networks of ultra-fast electric vehicle charging stations (>150 kW).

The project includes the installation of more than 200 ultra-fast charging points across Alves Bandeira’s national network of service stations and other strategic locations. These hubs, each equipped with multiple charging units, will ensure nationwide coverage and significantly reinforce Portugal’s public charging infrastructure, addressing the real needs of today’s EV drivers.

With a total installed capacity exceeding 36 MW, the network will enable over 500,000 charging sessions per year, representing more than 80 million fully electric kilometres. This network is expected to prevent the emission of around 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually — the equivalent of planting more than 600,000 trees — while generating estimated energy savings of approximately 15 million kWh per year.

All electricity supplied through the network will be 100% renewable, provided by EZU Energia, the energy retail company also belonging to Grupo Alves Bandeira. This ensures a carbon-neutral operation and reflects the shared ambition to promote a cleaner, more efficient and integrated energy ecosystem, aligned with both national and European decarbonisation goals.

The first Ultra-Fast Charging Station (PCUR) will open in the first quarter of 2026, marking the start of a nationwide rollout scheduled for completion by mid-2027. This initial phase will allow drivers to experience the speed and reliability of the new network, strengthening Portugal’s position as a reference in electric mobility across Europe.

Beyond expanding Alves Bandeira’s existing network, the partnership focuses on developing a multi-service, strategically located charging infrastructure designed to meet the demands of both private users and fleet operators in high-traffic areas.

Luís Castanheira, CEO of REMO, highlights:"Our collaboration with Grupo Alves Bandeira represents a strategic leap for REMO, allowing us to expand and densify our electric-charging network and establish an infrastructure of reference for Portugal. In addition to physical expansion, we benefit from the Group’s deep experience in mobility, which is essential for adopting best practices suited to the evolving landscape of electric mobility.”

João Pedro Justo, Executive Board Member of Grupo Alves Bandeira, adds:"This project reflects our commitment to the energy transition and sustainable mobility. We see decarbonisation not only as a goal, but as a collective responsibility. That is why we are investing in innovative infrastructure powered exclusively by renewable energy, capable of significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and contributing to a greener future. Our partnership with REMO, part of the Mota-Engil Group, is strategic and reinforces our focus on strong, innovative collaborations that accelerate this transformation.”

With more than 750 charging points in operation and over 2,000 in its development pipeline, REMO continues to consolidate its position as one of the fastest-growing electric-mobility operators in Europe. Integrating this new ultra-fast network into Alves Bandeira’s infrastructure will generate significant synergies with the Group’s existing energy network, supporting the country’s path toward carbon neutrality by 2050.

This partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of both companies to innovation, sustainability and decarbonisation, building the EV infrastructure of the future and ensuring greater autonomy, speed and accessibility for electric-vehicle users.
